Design Vision
This proposal outlines a comprehensive landscape transformation for the Gaurao Chaudhari residence — reimagining every corner of the outdoor space with considered materiality, purposeful planting, and cohesive connectivity between zones.
From the pergola patio through the central lawn to the tree-shaded seating retreat, each intervention is designed to layer aesthetics with function. Stone, mulch, gravel, and verdant planting work in harmony to create a private garden of refined character.
Six distinct zones are addressed: the patio pergola border, the playset enclosure, the garage hardscape, the tree circle garden, the illuminated seating retreat, and an optional boundary plantation — all knitted together by a continuous walking trail.
01
Patio & Pergola
The existing patio is in good overall condition and the pergola structure is sound. The opportunity lies in elevating the space from functional to genuinely beautiful through layered detailing.

Proposed: stone plank trail through lawn to seating area
02
Playset Enclosure
With hedges removed and the playset repositioned, the zone needs a sense of containment and identity — transforming what could feel exposed into a thoughtfully framed, seclusion-within-reach space.

03
Garage Side Hardscape
The side yard adjacent to the white garage is an underutilised canvas. A stone chip hardscape treatment with sculptural globe lighting transforms this utilitarian edge into a complementary aesthetic layer for the entire garden.

04
Tree Circle Garden
The two existing ornamental trees are the garden's most characterful feature. Organic-shaped ground cuts around each tree, filled with shaped rocks or circular concrete stepping pads and mulch, create a destination worth arriving at.

05
Illumination & Tree Treatment
The trees present a choice between two distinct aesthetic directions — both beautiful, but in different registers. The option selected will define the garden's overall character at night.
Option A
Fairy Light Canopy
Wrapping the tree canopies in delicate fairy lights creates a romantic, immersive evening atmosphere. Works beautifully alongside the organic tree circle concept from Section 04 — the two form a cohesive composition.
Option B
Hedge & Ground Cover Boundary
A clipped hedge or ground cover boundary around the trees creates a more formal, architectural definition. Best when the tree circle composition is not pursued — the two approaches should be considered mutually exclusive.
06
Water Feature & Seating Retreat
The shaded corner near the trees is the garden's natural sanctuary — the logical destination for an intimate seating space. Stone or metal-framed outdoor furniture anchors this zone, backed by planting that merges with the broader garden.
A water spout feature on a raised platform introduces sound, movement, and focal drama without dominating the space.

07
Boundary Plantation
Along the rear fence line, mulch or stone chip beds with columnar evergreens and Buxus spheres create a living privacy screen — softening the hard boundary and giving the garden depth and enclosure.
This treatment is optional — it adds significant character if budget permits, but the garden reads beautifully without it too.
